Los Pozos Airport

The first plane that tried to land in San Gil was the one that was piloted by the French M. Machaux. The building of this airport was due to the donation of the lands from Roberto Rueda Galvis and Sofía Parra de Rueda on January 28th of 1948. The airport has an extension of 1400 meters of length and 300 meters of width. After some time, Los Pozos Airport was founded in 1951 with the land of many aircrafts which came from Bogotá and Bucaramanga, but all these flights had commercial objectives.

Nowadays the airport is not able to receive flights because of the conditions of its way landing. There are two roads to get there. The first one is on the way to Barichara and the second one that was built later is 9 km from San Gil from the neighborhood Almendros. Both roads aren’t paved. A little part of the road is paved.

Even though the bad conditions of the roads and the airport, this one is used for many social events like the kite’s festival in August every year, also you can go there to ride motorcycles, four wheel cycles and bikes.

It is also a good option to learn how to drive.

If you want to walk and do some exercise, you can on the road to the airport.
You will also find many neighborhoods and a little school on the way.
